Fines for Overdue Materials
Items are considered overdue and continue to accrue fines until all parts and packaging are returned (i.e. both the disc and the case). Books and audiobooks (except those obtained through interlibrary loan) have a 3 day grace period. If you return or renew a book 3 days late, you won’t be fined, but if you return it 4 days late, you’ll be fined $0.40.
$0.05 per day per item for children’s materials
$0.10 per day per item for YA and adult materials
$0.25 per day per item for DVDs
Maximum Fines
Overdue fines will stop accruing once they reach the maximum fine.
$3.00 for children’s materials per item, not to exceed cost of item.
$6.00 for YA and adult materials per item, not to exceed cost of item.
$2.00 per item for all periodicals, not to exceed cost of item.
$15.00 per item for all single DVDs and CDs
$25.00 per set for all sets of DVDs and CDs
Wifi Hotspots fines and fees
Late fees $10.00 per day to a max of $100.00, no grace period.
Any Hotspot returned in the book drop will incur a $10.00 fine + any damage costs.
Damage/replacement charges
$100.00 for Hotspot.
$15.00 for the USB or power adapter.
$4.00 for bag.
$1.00 user’s guide or safety guide.
Launchpad fines and fees
Late fees $0.25 per day, no grace period
Any Launchpad returned in the book drop will incur a $10.00 fine + any damage costs.
Damage/replacement charges
Tablet – $125.00
Rubber case – $5.00
USB cord – $5.00
power adapter – $5.00
box – $5.00
TOTAL REPLACEMENT – $145.00
Billing Fees
$0.60 for first overdue notice by USPS
$0.75 for second overdue notice/bill
Fee for Lost/Damaged Materials
Replacement cost will be based on current prices. For out-of-print items, charges will be based on current average prices for materials in that subject area.
Replacement costs and charges for items belonging to other libraries will be set by the lending library.
Collection Agency Fees
Based on the current price charged by the collection agency.
Replacement Cards
$1.00 to replace a lost library card
Out of Town Cards
$90 annually (for out of town residents who wish to have the same library privileges as Berkeley Heights residents). Price is subject to change; call to verify current price.
